ABOUT THIS WATCH

The Chronicle is a sport chronograph that draws from the aesthetics of vintage timing instruments without recreating them. The 40 MM stainless steel case, tachymeter bezel, and two-register dial layout produce a visual balance that reads as both classic and current — a watch that earns its place on the wrist through design discipline rather than decoration.

Underneath the AR-coated sapphire crystal sits the Japan VK64 movement — a quartz-hybrid caliber that combines the sweep-hand character of a mechanical chronograph with the long-term reliability of quartz. The stainless steel case and bracelet are constructed for daily use, with a screw-down caseback and 100M water resistance rating that keep the watch relevant beyond the office. Luminous hands and markers maintain readability in lower light conditions.

The Chronicle fits a straightforward proposition: a well-proportioned, well-built chronograph for the person who wants a watch that functions as intended, looks like it was chosen deliberately, and holds up without demanding attention.

Stainless Steel Tachymeter Bezel

The fixed bezel carries a graduated tachymeter scale in black against a brushed steel surface. The scale runs from the 60 mark at 12 o'clock, progressing through 400 at the high end, and provides a reference for calculating speed over a known distance in conjunction with the chronograph function. The bezel integrates cleanly into the overall case profile, maintaining the compact visual weight of the 40 MM case.

Bezel & Case Integration

Viewed from the side, the bezel sits flush with the upper edge of the case, creating a continuous profile from bracelet to crystal. The case flanks are finished with a combination of brushed and polished surfaces that add visual depth without adding visual noise. Two pushers flank the crown on the right side of the case, positioned for operation without removing the watch.

Two-Register Chronograph

The dial organises the chronograph functions across two sub-registers: a 60-minute counter at 9 o'clock and a 24-hour indicator at 3 o'clock. The central seconds hand sweeps the full dial during chronograph operation. The sunray finish on the main dial surface creates a visual gradient that shifts with the angle of light, giving the dial a sense of depth that a flat finish would not achieve.

Indexes & Luminous Application

Hour markers are applied as rectangular bar indexes around the dial perimeter, with a triangular marker at 12 o'clock that establishes an immediate visual reference point and ties the dial architecture to the tachymeter bezel above it. The hands and markers carry a luminous treatment for readability in low-light conditions. The overall dial layout maintains legibility without crowding — the chronograph sub-registers are sized to remain readable without dominating the main timekeeping display.

AR-Coated Sapphire Crystal

The crystal is sapphire with an anti-reflective coating applied to the inner surface. The AR treatment is engineered to reduce light bounce across the crystal face, helping preserve visual clarity of the dial across different lighting conditions. Sapphire crystal is engineered for greater scratch resistance in everyday wear compared to mineral alternatives, making it well suited to a watch intended for regular use.

Stainless Steel Three-Link Bracelet

The bracelet is constructed in stainless steel with a three-link pattern across the full width. A combination of brushed and polished surfaces creates visual contrast throughout the bracelet. The 22 MM lug width integrates directly with the case at the lugs, maintaining a continuous profile from case to clasp. A butterfly-style deployant clasp secures the bracelet at the wrist.

Solid Screw-Down Caseback

The Chronicle uses a solid screw-down caseback as part of its 100M water resistance construction. The caseback integrates with the overall case profile and contributes to the structural integrity of the water resistance system. At 40 MM case diameter and 14 MM thickness, the overall case proportions are compact enough to sit comfortably under a shirt cuff.

40 MM on the Wrist

The 40 MM case diameter positions the Chronicle as a watch that covers the wrist without overstating its presence. The proportions are suited to a range of wrist sizes, and the bracelet taper from case to clasp follows the natural curve of the wrist.

Chronograph in Context

The tachymeter bezel and two-register dial layout are immediately readable in this orientation. The Chronicle's case fits cleanly at the cuff — the 40 MM diameter and 14 MM thickness keep the profile low enough for the watch to sit comfortably under a shirt sleeve without catching on the cuff edge.

Bracelet Integration

The three-link stainless steel bracelet follows the wrist contour from case to clasp. The butterfly deployant secures at the underside of the wrist and the overall weight of 140 G distributes evenly across the bracelet — substantial enough to feel considered, without creating fatigue during extended wear.

The case sits at exactly 14mm thick, which means it slides under a cuff without any fuss. After three weeks of daily wear the 140 gram weight still feels balanced rather than heavy.

I use the 60 minute counter regularly when timing meetings, and the readout never looks crowded. The two pushers operate with a firm, confident click that I did not expect at this price point.

Wore the Chronicle through several pool sessions without a second thought given the 100M rating. The screw down caseback feels properly sealed, not just decorative.

What surprised me most is the sweeping seconds hand, since I assumed a quartz chronograph would tick like the rest. The VK64 movement gives it a mechanical feel without the maintenance.

The three link bracelet has a solid, almost architectural feel on the wrist, with no rattle between the links. Sizing it down took ten minutes with basic tools.

The luminous markers are genuinely useful, not just a spec sheet feature. I can read the time clearly in a dim hotel room without reaching for my phone.

The caseback is solid and threads down properly, which gives the whole case a reassuring density. It does not feel like a watch assembled to hit a price point.

At 40mm the case is noticeable without being oversized, which works well for my wrist at client meetings. Colleagues have asked about the brand twice already.

No winding required, and the three year battery rating means I have not had to think about it since the first day. That convenience matters more than I expected.

The anti reflective coating on the sapphire crystal actually works, the dial stays readable even under direct studio lighting. Held up well against scratches so far.

The butterfly clasp closes with a clean snap and has not loosened once during long workdays. Small detail, but it changes how secure the watch feels on the wrist.

Arrived in solid, well built packaging that made it easy to give as a gift without rewrapping anything. The watch itself feels every bit as considered as the box it came in.

The 24 hour indicator at three o clock is a feature I did not expect to use but check often when traveling between time zones. Dial stays legible despite the added subdial.

Expected a chronograph this size to feel bulky under a winter coat sleeve, but the profile is low enough that it has not been an issue. Movement keeps accurate time after six weeks.

For a quartz hybrid movement, the chronograph function operates with more precision than I anticipated at this price. Stopped and reset cleanly every time I have tested it.

The 22mm band width gives the bracelet real presence without overwhelming the case. Removed two links myself and the fit on the wrist is now exactly right.

Wear it skiing and around the house without removing it, relying on the 100M resistance for splashes and snow. No fogging or moisture issues so far this season.
